Overview:

Grade 7: The New Testament (the story of Jesus) is the focus of 7th grade religion class. Students will be studying the following content: the mystery of the Incarnation, the meaning of the Kingdom, the Christian life (service, Eucharist, prayer), the Paschal Mystery (Jesus’ persecution, passion, resurrection), the Church today (Pentecost, spreading the Gospel, guidance of the Holy Spirit), and human dignity and sexuality. All students will learn and experience various forms of prayer, service, and community through the school year.

Grade 8: The Catholic Church (the history and story of the Church) is the focus of 8th grade religion class. Students will be studying the following content: the marks of the Church from the beginning (apostolic, holy, Catholic, one), the growth of Christendom (councils, cultures, liturgy), the medieval Church, Church reform (morality, forgiveness), returning to the roots of Christianity (ecumenical councils, renewal, moral struggles), social justice and Catholic social teaching, and human dignity and sexuality. All students will learn and experience various forms of prayer, service, and community through the school year.

Papers/Projects/Essays: Essays, reflection papers, individual and group projects/presentations

Tests: Unit and content tests – combination of essay questions, multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching
